Regional Overview
The southwest Wisconsin Region comprises the heart of “Driftless Area” of Wisconsin in that the last glacial period did not flatten our area and left us a variety of hills and valleys and is one of the ways we are unique in Wisconsin and the U.S.
This area is an agricultural power, we are one of the, if not the, most diverse agricultural regions in the country.
World renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright was born in and lived for much of his life in our region, and many examples of his architecture can be found in our region.
The region is home to several institutions of higher education, namely the University of Wisconsin – Platteville, the University of Wisconsin – Richland, Southwest Wisconsin Technical College and Black Hawk Technical College. These institutions have a total enrollment over 13,000.
The Southwest Wisconsin region has a total population of approximately 164,000.
From a business perspective, southwest Wisconsin has a well developed infrastructure of U.S. and State Highways, including a 4-lane highway. Several of our industry parks are also directly served by rail. Southwest Wisconsin has 23 industrial and business parks with a total acreage available of 630 acres, most of which is shovel-ready.
